As co-owner of Lava Studios, he has also produced, engineered, and performed on hundreds of commercial releases including projects for Activision, Whole Foods Market, The State of Texas, and countless others. He is the broadcast audio engineer at The Circuit of The Americas for all the major race events, including the U.S. Grand Prix. He fell in love with Austin, where he has become a top call musician, a respected music instructor, and an all around swell guy. Ed has toured, performed, and recorded with a multitude of artists including Max Frost, Nakia, Wrenfro, Kevin McKinney, Bruce Robison, Kelly Willis, Robyn Ludwick, Joel Guzman, Austin Symphony, Van Wilks, Suzanna Choffel, Tommy Shannon, and Bob Schneider. He has toured the U.S. as well as fifteen other countries and is the author of a drumset method book entitled Rock Solid: The Art of the Groove. An Austin fixture since the 90's, Kevin McKinney can be held responsible for an entire sub genre of music locally. With his band Soulhat, he helped turn the Black Cat Lounge on 6th Street from a biker bar into what amounts to a jam/funk myth. And today his songs, old and new, live on, making people happy and continually inspiring other Austin musicians whose respect Kevin holds in spades. Prolific doesn’t even begin to describe his current musical state. One record just released, and two awaiting release, Kevin is back in full force and playing Austin and its surrounds. “I make music not by choice – it chose me.
